A Real and Joyful Faith: Psalm 145:4-7
4 ”Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts;
let them proclaim your power.
5 I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor
and your wonderful miracles.
6 Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue;
I will proclaim your greatness.
7 Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness;
they will sing with joy about your righteousness.”
Psalm 145:4-7, NLT
One of the most contagious thing in the world is not typhoid or influenza. It is joy! Unleashed into our hearts we become “carriers,” infecting everyone we meet. God intends that there would be outbreaks of delight and exultation, and that that would sweep the earth.
The glory of God is the believers heritage and inheritance. God is our sole source of wealth as believers. In the early 1970s, I hung out with a Christian band in a commune. I wasn’t a believer, but I wanted to be. What powerfully drove the gospel was the faces and countenances when these ‘hippie Christians’ would start a set of praise and worship. I was immensely aware of them, they kind of just ‘ignited.’ Peace would settle through the old farm house. It was glorious!
Commentary
V. 4, “Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.”
We thoroughly covered this verse in the last post. But one or two comments anyway.
This seems to be sort of a methodology of evangelism. A generation speaking to another about what God has done. The focal point is not a personal one– the messenger is never the message. But God’s power is what is conveyed.
Certainly there have been times when God has powerfully moved in your life, maybe dramatically. This is what we must share with the younger generation.
V. 5-6, “I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor
and your wonderful miracles.
6 Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue;
I will proclaim your greatness.“
I pasted these two verses together (they are so similar.) We see key words as we roll these around.
Majestic– glorious– splendor– wonderful.
Awe-inspiring– greatness.
Mixed altogether and this is the starter needed for God’s glory. We now can become contagious carriers.
V. 7, “Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness;
they will sing with joy about your righteousness.”
All of us, each of us, have a story to tell. God has worked miracles, healings, provisions in our lives. We all have amazing stories.
Two phrases– “share the story” and “sing with joy.” We can do both of these from out of our own experiences. They are unique to be sure, but properly understood they are the essence of a joyful faith.

I love thinking about joy being contagious. It was the joy I saw in those Christian ladies around me that drew me to Christ. it is more powerful that we think. God bless you, Pastor B, with ever flowing joy!
